Raw foods: why raw foods, what are raw foods, why is it important to consume more raw foods? I’ll tell you what it’s done for me. It’s just given me much, much more energy. And why, what is it about raw foods that really do that. It’s like 2 plus 2, it’s an automatic, and that is the enzymes.
All food have enzymes, and those enzymes are present to help the food, once consumed, to digest itself. Once you cook, those enzymes leave the building. They’re out. They’re no longer involved in the digesting process. So what happens? Your body pulls from interior sources to help to digest that food. So much energy goes into digesting. It’s incredible. So why not consume food full of enzymes able to help that process. And what does it do? It gives you more energy to live your life, and get more out of your life.
So those enzymes are just so important. So keep it raw. If you’re not all raw; you don’t want to be all raw, be more raw. Whatever you are right now, be a little bit more raw, and work towards whatever goal you have in mind. You’ll feel the difference, and you’ll want to educate yourself more and more on raw foods. So with that being said, we’re going to prepare a green smoothie full of enzymes.
Green smoothies; why green smoothies? Green smoothies give you an opportunity to get more leafy green vegetables into your body. Leafy greens are so important to everybody’s diet, not only raw foodists, but everybody should be consuming more leafy greens full of minerals and vitamins and everything a body needs. So with that being said, we’re going to make some green smoothies.
First we’re going to start off with water: again, good quality water. If you’re making green smoothies for yourself, you want 2 cups. If you’re making it for a friend and you, then you just double that or triple that. Whatever you need to do to make the amount you need. We’re going to start of [with] 2 cups of good quality water. Again we’re using the Vita-Mix. Water goes into the blender.
And now the ingredients. Here we have Romaine lettuce, a banana and dandelion greens. Some people out there may be saying: Fruits and vegetables don’t mix, they don’t combine well. I agree with that. I along with Victoria Boutenko have eliminated greens from the vegetable category. We take greens and put them in their own category, and greens across the board combine with everything: grains, fruits, meats. Whatever you want to combine greens with, please combine away.
So we’re going to start with Romaine lettuce. First we get a handful of Romaine lettuce, and that handful of Romaine lettuce is going to go into the blender.
Next, one good quality ripe banana. We’re going to go ahead and just split that into two, and put that in the blender.
And then next for nice taste we’re going to add dandelion greens. People may not think [of] dandelion greens as a food, but in reality amazing health benefits. So we’re going to put the dandelion greens into the blender.
Our last 2 little ingredients for taste - and again, these are for taste and taste only - we have a little bit of lemon juice: freshly squeezed lemon juice and we’re going to add that to the blender cup. And lastly, sea salt: grey mineral Celtic sea salt, full of minerals [and] really, really good for the body. Outside of the white salt which is not health promoting; the grey mineral sea salt is health promoting. We’re going to take a couple of scoops of that, and put that in our blender cup. And we have the ingredients for an amazing tasting green smoothie.
Next we’ll put the cap on, and we’ll start the blending process. I’m going to bring one more instrument into the blending. This is part of the Vita-Mix. This is a "jammer" stick. It allows us to push the ingredients down closer to the blade so that you don’t have to stop blending and use a spatula.
And that is it. We have an amazing green smoothie. A perfect way to start off your day: tons of greens; good quality fruits; very, very tasty. Next and last, I’m going to enjoy this concoction. I’m going to pour a little bit into a cup. Just a vibrant green, just an amazing color, and just to taste this drink... Hmmm, green goodness. Green smoothies are the way to start off your day.
There you have it. Raw foods: easy to prepare, tasty and incredibly healthy. Let those enzymes work for you. Let them do the work to digest your food and give you more energy. It’s an amazing feeling. Trust me.
